Shiny like new

Some of the photos of my last year’s trip to Florida were great. Less great was the fact I had my DSLR at the beach and what can be more devastating to your device than the tiny mighty evil sand. Of course I have been more worried that sand could penetrate the camera body when you haven’t a lens attached, like when switching them. But that none dangerous little grain of sand slips in the smallest gaps. What you can’t remove, you won’t be able to remove yourself. It took me quite some time to clean it and still after months I have been able to brush some sand out of the gaps.

Unfortunately the focus ring of my main lens has been affected severe and since that moment I always had a slight cracking sound while focusing manual.  Of course longer or sooner this will be fatal what made me bring it to maintenance last week. Actually much too late but better than never. The calculation were quite horrible expensive but worth any penny for that particular lens. Today I picked it up again. Shiny like new.

My main lens – a Zuiko 12-60mm 1:2.8-4 SWD
That fluted ring over the ED sign is the focus ring where you could shake out the whole St.Augustine beach.

Ouch! That’s got to hurt. I recently decided to see if my 24-105 f4 L Canon lens could fly. Turns out it cannot. Fortunately, repairs in China are less expensive than back home. But here is one thing I learned long long ago – keep your gear out of the sand! Glad you got it fixed.

As for catching up on blogs (I’m nearly 900 behind). Yikes!
