Render tests – Eclipse and black hole

The Eclipse

I don’t really know how exactly i came up with the idea to try myself on the eclipse. I never finished the eclipse as my mind changed suddenly. I always loved the diamond ring of the eclipse, not the total one. So I played around with the light sources and tinkered myself a ring diamond effect. Then I have added a few more lights for the outer parts to get the diamond effect (known as Bailey’s beads). Et voilà !

Everybody who knows the eclipse very well might find many mistakes or inconsistencies but, myself – a layman in that matter, would never have found a clear difference.

The Black Hole Test

Just as I have finished the work on the eclipse, the next weird idea came to mind.  A black hole. All i know about black holes is the fact, that their mass is infinite big. There is a model for gravitation in space which looks like that.

Gravitation grid

Gravitation grid which i made for a role play game in a forum.

While the planet pushes a slight dent into the grid, a black hole would push it as i said, infinite strong, it looks like straight cone with no ending. The gravity is so strong that even light can’t escape and that’s why the center looks black. Around the event horizon, the light gets warped around.

Actually i don’t really know what it would look like in reality but if you watch allot of BBC documentaries or similar about that interesting space anomaly, then you get a slight idea about what you can do then. I played around with the tools and made something that might work out pretty nicely.

Blackhole

Black hole

So when it’s crossing the planet, it looks like the planet gets stretched and warped around the black hole. It appears like and egg shaped object with a black dot. When it follows to the sun, the sun gets warped around the hole. Then it will look like a black dot with a white ring around it. I have rendered a small animation of 250 single frames which make 10 seconds material just showing the black hole moving from A to B. When it’s done I’ll show it to a pal, who works on animations for a local planetarium. I’m sure he’ll love it since he don’t know yet himself how to do that (also applies for the eclipse 😛 )

But it’s important to mention, that this is not a simulation or some kind, it’s just a trick that makes it nearly look like one.
